Best scuba diving spots in the world

Scuba diving is one of the most exhilarating and thrilling recreations one can partake in. Not only can you witness immense underwater beauty but this pastime can take you around the globe on the hunt for better scuba diving spots. I wouldn't say that one spot is better than another, that's a matter of personal opinion, but a handful of locations I've dived at are definately my favorites that I would revisit again and again.

There are amazing diving spots all around the world, and if you have a chance, I highly recommend that you go to all of the ones listed below. So, here's a list of some of the best spots I've been at and a few that I one day want to go and dive at.



The Blue Hole - Belize

The great blue hole is a huge underwater sinkhole off the coast of Belize. It's 1000ft across and 460ft deep. The depth of the hole has been measured as deep as 125m (410 ft).

highlights: caribbean reef shark, blacktip shark, hammerheads, giant groupers, nurse sharks
best time to go: April to June
visibility: 15 - 30 metres (50 - 100 feet)

Barracuda Point - Sipadan, Malaysia

Sipadan is the only oceanic island in Malaysia, it's location is in the Celebes Sea and rised 600m (2000 ft) from the seabed.

highlights: barracuda, leopard sharks, hammerheads, jacks, turtles, parrot fish
best time to go: April to October
visibility: 15 - 40 metres (50 - 130 feet)

The Ribbon Reefs - Australian Great Barrier Reef

The Ribbon Reefs are long, thin strips of reef, which form the outer edges of the Great Barrier Reef around 50 km - 100 km off the northern Queensland shore.

highlights: barracudas, white tip sharks, giant potato cod
best time to go: September to November
visibility: 10 - 30m
water temperature: 22 - 29 °C

Bonaire - Netherlands Antilles

Bonaire is the most eastern of the Leeward Islands in the southwest Caribbean, lying about 50 miles north of Venezuela. The island is part of The Netherlands Antilles, an autonomous region of the Netherlands.

Amphitheater - Turks & Caicos

Sloping sandy bottom and through large v-shaped coral archway, emerging over a sheer coral cliff face

highlights: stingrays, nurse sharks, sharks, whales, mantas, eagle rays and dolphins

visibility: 30+ m
