How to chop an onion

  1. Get out a sharp knife that's approximately double the size of the onion and a cutting board
  2. Take an onion and cut off the top part that's kind of pointy, leave the bottom end intact
  3. Put the onion on the cutting board, hold it in place and cut the onion in half vertically
  4. Take the two halfs you just cut, and place them both on the cutting board cut-side down
  5. Peel the skin of the two halves you just cut
  6. Take the two onion halves and chop them up into strips, each approximately 1/4 to 1/5 of an inch wide
  7. Grab the knife and hold the onion together and chop it up the opposite way you just did
  8. You will now have a cross-sliced onion ready to be used in your dish
